Find an Accessible Restroom in Brazil: Portuguese Questions for Staff — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Ask where the accessible restroom is
Banheiro acessível means accessible restroom. Ask staff where it is and whether it is on the same floor. If signs point in more than one direction, ask someone to clarify before you continue.
In some venues, staff may need to unlock a facility or explain an access procedure. Ask what to do instead of assuming every location works the same way.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Onde fica o banheiro acessível? | Where is the accessible restroom? |
| Ele fica neste andar? | Is it on this floor? |
Confirm the route and access
Ask whether the route has steps and where the nearest elevator is if you need one. A short question can establish what the route involves before you set off.
If the restroom is temporarily closed, ask whether another accessible facility is available and how to reach it. Follow the venue’s current directions.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| O caminho até lá tem escadas? | Are there stairs on the way there? |
| Há outro banheiro acessível disponível? | Is another accessible restroom available? |
Explain a specific feature you need
If you need to check a feature, ask the staff to confirm it for that restroom. For example, you can ask about a support bar or whether the door can be opened from inside.
Keep the question focused on the feature you need, and ask staff for the current information at that venue.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| O banheiro tem barras de apoio? | Does the restroom have grab bars? |
| Você pode confirmar se a porta abre por dentro? | Could you confirm whether the door opens from inside? |
Remember: Ask staff to confirm the facility, access procedure, and route at the venue you are visiting.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Ask staff to confirm the facility, access procedure, and route at the venue you are visiting.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
