Ask for an Apartment Repair in Brazilian Portuguese — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Describe what is happening and where
Use estou com um problema (I have a problem) or há um problema (there is a problem), then name the room or item. Vazamento is a leak, tomada is an electrical outlet, and chuveiro is the shower. Keep the description observable: what is not working, where it happens, and when you noticed it.
For a recurring issue, use às vezes (sometimes), desde ontem (since yesterday), or quando… (when…). If there may be an immediate hazard, prioritize local emergency or building procedures rather than relying on a message alone.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Estou com um vazamento embaixo da pia da cozinha. | There’s a leak under the kitchen sink. |
| O chuveiro não está esquentando desde ontem. | The shower hasn’t been heating since yesterday. |
| A tomada da sala para de funcionar às vezes. | The living room outlet stops working sometimes. |
Ask about a visit and confirm practical details
After describing the issue, ask who can inspect it and when: Você pode verificar isso? (Can you check this?) or Quando alguém pode vir? (When can someone come?). If a maintenance worker needs access, confirm the day, approximate time, and who will meet them.
A written recap helps avoid confusion: Então, a visita ficou para terça, por volta das dez, certo? (So the visit is set for Tuesday around ten, correct?). Follow your rental agreement and building process for responsibility, urgent requests, and permission to enter.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Você pode enviar alguém para avaliar o vazamento? | Can you send someone to assess the leak? |
| Qual horário funciona para a visita? | What time works for the visit? |
| Posso mandar uma foto para mostrar o problema. | I can send a photo to show the problem. |
Remember: Describe the repair issue with a location and observable detail, ask what happens next, and confirm the visit time and access arrangements in writing.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Describe the repair issue with a location and observable detail, ask what happens next, and confirm the visit time and access arrangements in writing.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
