Ask for a Quieter Hotel Room in Brazilian Portuguese — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Describe the problem without accusing another guest
Use barulho for noise and quarto para a rua for a room facing the street. Explain when the noise happens and whether it is coming from outside, a hallway, or another room.
A neutral description gives staff something specific to investigate. Avoid guessing who caused the sound or what hotel policy says before speaking with reception.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| O meu quarto está muito barulhento à noite. | My room is very noisy at night. |
| Consigo ouvir bastante barulho do corredor. | I can hear a lot of noise from the hallway. |
| O quarto fica de frente para a rua movimentada. | The room faces the busy street. |
Ask whether a different room is available
Ask if there is a quieter room or one away from the elevator, street, or common area. Room availability depends on the hotel, occupancy, and reservation, so phrase the request as a question.
If changing rooms is not possible, ask whether staff can suggest another solution. The hotel may need to inspect the issue first.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Há um quarto mais silencioso disponível? | Is a quieter room available? |
| Seria possível trocar para um quarto longe do elevador? | Would it be possible to move to a room away from the elevator? |
| Alguém poderia verificar o barulho, por favor? | Could someone check the noise, please? |
Check the timing and practical steps
If staff offer a room change, confirm when it is ready, where to collect a new key, and whether anyone can help with luggage. Ask whether the room has the same reservation details and amenities you need.
Repeat the room number before leaving the desk. If no change is available, confirm what staff will do next and when you can follow up.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| A partir de que horário posso mudar? | From what time can I move? |
| Preciso buscar uma nova chave na recepção? | Do I need to pick up a new key at reception? |
| Vocês podem me ajudar com as malas? | Can you help me with the bags? |
Thank the staff and confirm what was agreed
A brief thank-you keeps the exchange friendly, even if the hotel cannot make the change immediately. Restate the next step so both you and the staff know what to expect.
If the issue continues, go back to reception and explain what has changed since your first request.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Obrigado por verificar. Vou voltar às nove. | Thank you for checking. I’ll come back at nine. |
| Entendi. Vocês vão me avisar quando houver uma opção? | I understand. Will you let me know when an option is available? |
| Agradeço a ajuda com a troca do quarto. | I appreciate your help with changing rooms. |
Remember: Describe the noise, ask what room options are available, and confirm the next step with reception.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Describe the noise, ask what room options are available, and confirm the next step with reception.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
