Ask a Local Guide About a Hike in Portuguese: Group Size and Gear — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Understand what the guided hike includes
A guided hike can be called uma trilha guiada or uma caminhada com guia. Ask how long it takes, where the group meets, and whether transportation or an entrance ticket is included. The guide or operator can confirm current details for that outing.
Incluso means included. If something is not included in the quoted amount, ask what the extra cost covers before you book.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Quanto tempo dura a caminhada com guia? | How long does the guided hike last? |
| O transporte até o início da trilha está incluído? | Is transportation to the trailhead included? |
Ask about group size and the meeting point
Grupo is group, and ponto de encontro is meeting point. Ask how many people are expected and whether the group has a set departure time. This helps you understand the format without assuming every tour works the same way.
If the meeting place has a name you do not recognize, ask the guide to send the address or location pin. Repeat the time and location in your confirmation.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Quantas pessoas vão no grupo? | How many people will be in the group? |
| Você pode me enviar a localização do ponto de encontro? | Could you send me the location of the meeting point? |
Confirm what to bring
Ask the guide what clothing or equipment is appropriate for the specific route and forecast. Equipamento means equipment, and o que devo levar? means ‘what should I bring?’ The answer can depend on terrain, weather, and current route conditions.
If you have a question about your needs or ability, describe it and ask whether the guide thinks the activity is suitable. Decide after hearing the details.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| O que devo levar para esta trilha? | What should I bring for this trail? |
| Preciso levar água ou algum equipamento específico? | Should I bring water or any particular equipment? |
Remember: Ask the guide to confirm the route, meeting point, duration, group format, inclusions, and recommended gear before you book.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Ask the guide to confirm the route, meeting point, duration, group format, inclusions, and recommended gear before you book.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
