Two Deadlines at Work? Ask What to Prioritize in Portuguese — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Describe the competing tasks clearly
Priorizar means to prioritize. Name each task and its current deadline so your manager can see the conflict without having to infer it from a vague message.
Use prazo para entregar for a delivery deadline and reunião marcada for a scheduled meeting. A short factual description keeps the conversation focused on the plan.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Tenho duas entregas previstas para sexta-feira. | I have two deliverables scheduled for Friday. |
| O relatório e a apresentação precisam de mais algumas horas. | The report and the presentation need a few more hours. |
| A reunião com o cliente coincide com a revisão do projeto. | The client meeting conflicts with the project review. |
Ask which result should come first
Ask your manager directly which task should take priority. You can also ask whether one deadline can move or whether another teammate can help.
This is a coordination question, not a refusal to do the work. Keep the tone collaborative and avoid promising to finish everything at once if the schedule does not allow it.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Qual dessas tarefas devo priorizar? | Which of these tasks should I prioritize? |
| Você prefere que eu termine o relatório antes da apresentação? | Would you prefer me to finish the report before the presentation? |
| Algum prazo pode ser ajustado? | Can either deadline be adjusted? |
Offer options instead of only naming a problem
If you see a workable option, present it briefly. You might finish the client-facing part first, send a draft for review, or ask someone to take one defined section.
Leave room for the manager to choose another approach. A proposal starts the discussion; it is not a confirmed handoff until the other person agrees.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Posso enviar um rascunho hoje e a versão final amanhã. | I can send a draft today and the final version tomorrow. |
| A Júlia poderia revisar a apresentação enquanto termino os dados? | Could Júlia review the presentation while I finish the data? |
| Consigo concluir uma tarefa de cada vez. Qual opção funciona melhor? | I can complete one task at a time. Which option works best? |
Repeat the priority and next step
Once you receive direction, restate the priority and the relevant deadline. If the decision changes the original plan, ask who needs to know about the adjustment.
A short confirmation helps everyone work from the same order of tasks and reduces the chance of silently missing one deadline.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Entendi. Vou priorizar o relatório até o fim do dia. | Understood. I’ll prioritize the report by the end of the day. |
| Então a apresentação fica para amanhã de manhã. | Then the presentation moves to tomorrow morning. |
| Vou atualizar o calendário da equipe. | I’ll update the team calendar. |
Remember: Name the deadlines, ask for a priority, and confirm any change before updating the plan.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Name the deadlines, ask for a priority, and confirm any change before updating the plan.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
