Cair a ficha is an informal Brazilian expression for suddenly understanding or realizing something. The image is figurative: an idea has finally clicked or sunk in. It often describes the point when a person connects information they already had.
A common pattern is caiu a ficha de que + sentence (it dawned on someone that…). In the negative, a ficha ainda não caiu means the person has not fully understood or accepted what happened yet.

The phrase can take a que-clause with de: caiu a ficha de que… Keep the idea after que complete, and use the expression when the realization itself matters to your story.
