What Does ‘Dar um Jeito’ Mean in Brazilian Portuguese — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Use dar um jeito when someone finds a solution
Dar um jeito means to find a way, sort something out, or make a situation work. It often sounds practical and resourceful; it does not promise that the solution will be perfect.
The object can be introduced with em: dar um jeito no problema (sort out the problem). For an action, use de + infinitive: dar um jeito de chegar (find a way to get there).
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| A gente vai dar um jeito de chegar a tempo. | We’ll find a way to get there on time. |
| Preciso dar um jeito neste computador. | I need to sort out this computer. |
| Ela sempre dá um jeito quando algo muda. | She always finds a way when something changes. |
Use a short response to offer help
A gente dá um jeito can reassure someone that you will work something out together. Add a real next step when the issue needs a concrete answer, such as a time, a person to contact, or a backup plan.
The phrase is informal and broad. In a formal workplace message, state the action you will take rather than relying on the expression alone.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Não se preocupa; a gente dá um jeito. | Don’t worry; we’ll find a way. |
| Vou dar um jeito de falar com a recepção hoje. | I’ll find a way to speak with reception today. |
| Se não der para hoje, damos um jeito amanhã. | If today doesn’t work, we’ll sort it out tomorrow. |
Remember: Dar um jeito means to find a practical way to handle something. Add the next action when the listener needs a specific plan.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Dar um jeito means to find a practical way to handle something. Add the next action when the listener needs a specific plan.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
