Meet Bruno and the teaching teamKeep com with the verb
Caldas Aulete’s lidar entry records dealing with, attending to and facing something, with com in these uses. The reference was checked on October 21, 2026.
- Estou lidando com um problema no trabalho. — “I’m dealing with a problem at work.”
- Ela sabe lidar com clientes. — “She knows how to deal with customers.”
- A gente precisa lidar com essa mudança. — “We need to deal with that change.”
The object after com is what you handle. It can be a person, a situation or a difficulty. The expression does not always mean fighting: dealing with customers can mean interacting with them appropriately. Use the surrounding words before deciding that the exchange is a conflict.
Handling, solving and avoiding name different outcomes
- Ainda estou lidando com a situação. — “I’m still dealing with the situation.”
- Já resolvi o problema. — “I’ve already solved the problem.”
- Estou tentando evitar outro atraso. — “I’m trying to avoid another delay.”
Handling may be ongoing. Solving reports a result. Avoiding aims to prevent something from happening. A listener cannot safely replace one with another just because all three concern a problem. If the result matters, add an explicit update: Ainda não resolvi — “I haven’t solved it yet.”
Original dialogue: ask for the status, not a guess
A: Você já resolveu a questão da entrega?
Have you solved the delivery issue yet?
B: Ainda não. Estou lidando com isso agora.
Not yet. I’m dealing with it now.
A: Você precisa de alguma informação minha?
Do you need any information from me?
B: Preciso confirmar o endereço.
I need to confirm the address.
B’s answer separates effort from completion and identifies one useful next step. A can help without assuming the delivery issue is finished. The written exchange is original; it does not report an actual customer problem or promise any particular service response.
Describe your own response without generalizing about a country
A question such as Como você lida com mudanças de plano? — “How do you deal with changed plans?” — invites a personal account. It is more specific than assuming everyone in a country reacts the same way. For a small inconvenience, someone might explain an action: Primeiro, confirmo o que mudou — “First, I confirm what changed.”
If you are listening to a story, separate the event from the response. The bus being late is the event; checking another route is a response. Lidar com can introduce how the person handles the situation without implying they control the bus schedule. Continue with the episode guide about everyday frustrations.
Practice: identify what is done and what is ongoing
- Complete Preciso lidar ___ essa mudança.
- Does Estou lidando com isso confirm that the problem is fixed?
- Say that you have already solved the problem.
- Ask a person how they handle changed plans.
- Add a concrete next step to a handling update.
Suggested answers and explanations
- Com. The pattern is lidar com something or someone.
- No. It says the person is handling it. Ask about the outcome if you need confirmation.
- Já resolvi o problema. This reports completion, unlike an ongoing handling update.
- Como você lida com mudanças de plano? It asks about their own approach, not a national rule.
- Estou lidando com isso. Preciso confirmar o endereço. — “I’m dealing with it. I need to confirm the address.” The listener now knows what information is useful.
