Lost Your Passport in Brazil? Portuguese Phrases to Ask for Help — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Say whether the passport was lost or stolen
Perdi meu passaporte means I lost my passport. Roubaram meu passaporte means someone stole my passport. Use the phrase that matches what you know; if you are not sure, explain that you cannot tell whether it was lost or stolen.
If there is an immediate safety threat, contact the appropriate emergency service. For replacement documents, ask your country's embassy or consulate about its current process.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Perdi meu passaporte hoje de manhã. | I lost my passport this morning. |
| Acho que roubaram meu passaporte no ônibus. | I think someone stole my passport on the bus. |
Ask the local authority about reporting the incident
Ask which local channel handles the report and what information is required. Procedures differ by location and may change, so follow the instructions of the responsible authority rather than relying on a general language guide.
Keep the date, approximate time, and last known location ready. Do not post passport details or document numbers publicly.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Onde posso informar a perda do documento? | Where can I report the loss of the document? |
| Preciso apresentar algum outro documento? | Do I need to show another document? |
Contact your embassy or consulate
Use your country's official embassy or consulate website for current contact details and replacement-document instructions. Explain where you are and whether the passport was lost, stolen, or is inaccessible.
If you need language assistance, say that you are a foreigner and ask whether an English-speaking staff member or interpreter is available.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Preciso entrar em contato com o consulado do meu país. | I need to contact my country's consulate. |
| Vocês podem me orientar sobre um documento de viagem temporário? | Can you advise me about a temporary travel document? |
Remember: Confirm document and reporting procedures directly with local authorities and your embassy or consulate.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Confirm document and reporting procedures directly with local authorities and your embassy or consulate.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
