Invite Someone to Your Home in Brazilian Portuguese — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Give an invitation with a clear time
Use quer vir à minha casa? (would you like to come to my place?) and add a day or activity. To make the invitation easy to accept or decline, give a specific time and ask what works for the other person.
If you prefer a casual invitation, say passa lá em casa (drop by my place) but still agree on when if timing matters.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Quer vir à minha casa para jantar na sexta? | Would you like to come to my place for dinner on Friday? |
| Pode chegar depois das sete. | You can arrive after seven. |
| Que horário fica melhor para você? | What time works best for you? |
Share the address and arrival details
Send the full address and include a useful detail such as the apartment number or which entrance to use. If there is a gate or intercom, tell your guest what name to look for.
For broader practice spelling an address or phone number, use our separate Portuguese address guide.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Vou mandar o endereço pelo WhatsApp. | I’ll send the address on WhatsApp. |
| Toque o interfone no apartamento 402. | Buzz apartment 402. |
| A entrada fica na rua de trás. | The entrance is on the street behind. |
Welcome the guest and offer something
When someone arrives, say fica à vontade (make yourself at home) or quer alguma coisa para beber? (would you like something to drink?). If you are offering a specific choice, name it clearly.
Hospitality phrases can be warm without requiring a long conversation. A simple offer and one follow-up question help a guest feel included.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Fica à vontade. | Make yourself at home. |
| Quer água, café ou suco? | Would you like water, coffee, or juice? |
| Você está confortável? | Are you comfortable? |
Remember: Practice an invitation with a day and time, one address message, and one welcome phrase you can use at the door.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Practice an invitation with a day and time, one address message, and one welcome phrase you can use at the door.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
