    Confirm the rental pickup details

At the rental counter, confirm the reservation name, pickup time, and where the car is parked. Aluguel means rental, reserva means reservation, and carteira de motorista is driver’s license.

Ask the rental company to explain the contract, insurance, and return instructions in a language you understand before signing. The phrases here help you ask questions; they do not replace the company’s terms or local driving requirements.

Ask which fuel the car uses

Before fueling, check the rental documents or ask the rental company which fuel the specific vehicle requires. Gasolina means gasoline, and etanol is ethanol; do not guess based only on the car’s model or appearance.

A staff member can confirm the right fuel and explain the pump. Ask them to repeat the information if you are uncertain.

Get help with a route or return

If you need directions, name the destination and ask which road to take. At the return location, confirm where to park, what time the vehicle is due, and whether staff need to inspect it.

For city rides and local transit, see our taxi and bus-and-metro phrase guides. This guide focuses on questions connected to a rental car.

Recall the Portuguese, then say it

Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you

Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.

At pickup, confirm the rental details and required fuel with the provider. Before returning the car, confirm the time and exact return location.

Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
