Send a Short Voice Message in Brazilian Portuguese — Practice

A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.

    October 20, 2026 4 min practice

Start with a greeting and context

A voice note can begin with oi and the person’s name, then say why you are messaging. One context phrase helps the listener understand your point before you add details.

Keep your first note short. You can send another message if you need to add something important.

Brazilian Portuguese examples with English translations: Start with a greeting and context
    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
Oi, Ana! Estou mandando mensagem sobre amanhã.Hi, Ana! I’m sending a message about tomorrow.
Oi! Queria confirmar nosso horário.Hi! I wanted to confirm our time.
Tudo bem? Tenho uma dúvida rápida. How are you? I have a quick question.

Say one main point at a time

Choose the main information before you record: a question, a change in plans, or a short update. Pause between ideas instead of speaking quickly to fit everything into one note.

If you forget a word, describe it in another way or say that you do not remember its name. You do not need to restart the whole message.

Brazilian Portuguese examples with English translations: Say one main point at a time
    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
Você pode me encontrar na entrada? Can you meet me at the entrance?
Vou chegar dez minutos atrasado.I’ll arrive ten minutes late.
Não lembro o nome agora, mas é o lugar perto da praça.I don’t remember the name now, but it’s the place near the square.

Close with a useful next step

Finish by asking for a reply, confirming what will happen, or thanking the person. A clear ending makes it easier for the listener to know whether you need an answer.

    Check your understanding

Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.

Oi, Ana! Estou mandando mensagem sobre amanhã.

Recall the Portuguese, then say it

Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you

Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.

Record a 15-second note with a greeting, one main point, and one clear closing. Listen once to check that the key detail is audible.

Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
