Turn a Portuguese Podcast into a One-Minute Voice Note

Meet Bruno and the teaching teamChoose a passage small enough to understand
Start with roughly 20–40 seconds about one event or idea. Shorten it if you cannot identify the main point after listening and checking available support. A minute of difficult audio is not automatically more useful than twenty seconds you can work with carefully.
Write three prompts: who or what the passage is about, what happened, and the result. For an opinion, use the claim and the reason instead of inventing an event. Mark uncertainty rather than filling gaps from imagination. If you cannot resolve an important detail, choose another passage.
Retell rather than recite
A useful opening is Nesse trecho, eles falam sobre… — “In this passage, they talk about…” For a story, continue with Primeiro… depois… no final… — “First… then… in the end…” You do not need all three if the passage contains only one point.
Our original model, unrelated to a specific recording, is: Nesse trecho, uma pessoa conta que perdeu o ônibus. Depois, ela pegou um táxi. No final, conseguiu chegar a tempo. — “In this passage, someone says they missed the bus. Then they took a taxi. In the end, they managed to arrive on time.” Never attribute this invented story to a real episode.
Use a small review rubric
- Meaning: Did I preserve the actual event or opinion, without adding an outcome?
- Clarity: Could someone tell who did what and why it matters?
- Language: Is there one recurring word or structure worth checking?
Listen to your recording once for meaning before checking every ending. Compare the important details with the source. Then make a second version correcting one problem. A phone recorder is sufficient; do not assume a learning app supplies recording or automatic correction unless that feature is documented.
Keep it private unless you choose to share it. Avoid including another learner’s private story or personal details in material you publish.
A repeatable session and an honesty check
- Listen to a short passage from one of our podcast lessons.
- Note three key points in words you understand.
- Check any detail that changes the meaning.
- Record up to one minute in your own words.
- Replay the source, then revise one part of your retelling.
Consider this source note for an invented exercise: “Ana missed a train, called a friend, and arrived later.” Which retelling is accurate: “Ana arrived late after missing a train,” or “Ana’s friend drove her to the airport”?
Show the answer
The first preserves the supplied information. The second invents the friend’s action and a destination. Simpler language that stays accurate is better for this task than a detailed story you made up.
The speaking episode linked below encourages moving beyond recognition to usable language. This voice-note routine is a new companion exercise, not a transcript, standardized assessment or promise of rapid fluency. Change the length to match your level and choose topics you actually enjoy.

Frequently asked questions
Should I memorize the podcast transcript?
Not for this exercise. Check the meaning, then explain it in your own words. Exact repetition is a different activity.
How long should my Portuguese voice note be?
Up to one minute is a manageable starting target, but shorter is fine. Clear and accurate content matters more than filling the time.
