How to Speak Up in a Meeting in Brazilian Portuguese — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Enter the discussion with a short signal
In a meeting, Posso acrescentar uma coisa? (Can I add something?) and Queria comentar um ponto (I wanted to comment on one point) give listeners a brief signal before your idea. Use the style that fits your team and the level of formality in the room.
If the discussion moves quickly, you can ask to return to a topic or check a detail. A focused question helps the group understand what information you need without requiring a long interruption.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Posso acrescentar uma coisa sobre o cronograma? | Can I add something about the timeline? |
| Queria comentar um ponto sobre os dados. | I wanted to comment on one point about the data. |
| Você pode explicar o que muda nesta etapa? | Can you explain what changes in this stage? |
Make the point, then check what happens next
After the opening phrase, state one point at a time. You can agree with part of an idea before adding a concern: Concordo com essa parte. Também precisamos considerar… (I agree with that part. We also need to consider…). This keeps your contribution specific and makes it easier for others to respond.
If you need to check an action item, ask Quem fica responsável por…? (Who will be responsible for…?) or Qual é o próximo passo? (What is the next step?). When you cannot answer immediately, say that you will confirm and follow up instead of guessing.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Concordo. Também precisamos confirmar a data com a equipe. | I agree. We also need to confirm the date with the team. |
| Só para confirmar: eu envio a versão revisada hoje? | Just to confirm: should I send the revised version today? |
| Vou verificar esse número e retorno depois da reunião. | I’ll check that number and follow up after the meeting. |
Remember: Use a short entry phrase, make one clear point, and end with a focused question or next step. Match your wording to your team’s workplace norms.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Use a short entry phrase, make one clear point, and end with a focused question or next step. Match your wording to your team’s workplace norms.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
