Agenda vs. Agenda in Portuguese: Schedule or Meeting Topics — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Agenda often means a calendar or planner
In Brazilian Portuguese, agenda commonly means a personal planner or schedule. It can also refer to a list of commitments. Say minha agenda está cheia to explain that you have a busy calendar.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Vou conferir minha agenda antes de marcar a reunião. | I’ll check my calendar before scheduling the meeting. |
| Tenho dois compromissos na agenda amanhã. | I have two appointments on my calendar tomorrow. |
Use pauta for a meeting agenda
When you mean the list of topics to discuss at a meeting, pauta is often the most natural word. Ordem do dia may appear in more formal or institutional contexts. Ask for the pauta before a meeting if you want to prepare the topics.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Você pode enviar a pauta da reunião? | Could you send the meeting agenda? |
| O primeiro item da pauta é o orçamento. | The first item on the agenda is the budget. |
Use the surrounding context to choose
If the sentence is about available times or appointments, agenda probably means calendar. If it is about points people will discuss together, pauta is usually clearer. Asking what is included can resolve ambiguity.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Minha agenda está livre às quatro. | My schedule is free at four. |
| Quais assuntos estão na pauta de hoje? | What topics are on today’s agenda? |
Remember: Use agenda for a person’s schedule and pauta for the list of topics at a meeting.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Use agenda for a person’s schedule and pauta for the list of topics at a meeting.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
