    Say which class you missed

Use faltei à aula to say I missed class. Name the subject, day, or professor if the classmate attends several courses with you.

A brief explanation is enough. You can say you were absent without sharing a private reason.

Brazilian Portuguese examples with English translations: Say which class you missed
    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
Faltei à aula de biologia ontem.I missed biology class yesterday.
Não consegui chegar à aula de hoje.I wasn’t able to make it to class today.
Você também estava na aula de literatura? Were you also in literature class?

Ask about one useful piece of material

Instead of asking for everything, ask about a specific item: the topic, a set of slides, the homework, or an announcement. A focused question is faster to answer and helps you make a plan to catch up.

If you need to borrow notes, ask whether the classmate is comfortable sharing them and when they are available. Do not assume that another student's work is yours to copy.

Brazilian Portuguese examples with English translations: Ask about one useful piece of material
    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
Você pode me dizer quais tópicos foram vistos?Could you tell me which topics were covered?
A professora passou alguma atividade para entregar?Did the professor assign anything to turn in?
Você poderia compartilhar os slides comigo?Could you share the slides with me?

Check the next class and where information is posted

Ask whether a deadline, reading, or room change was announced. Confirm details in the official class platform or with the instructor so you do not rely on a secondhand message for an important update.

If the notes are unclear, ask one follow-up question or contact the professor. You can thank your classmate without making them responsible for teaching the whole missed lesson.

Brazilian Portuguese examples with English translations: Check the next class and where information is posted
    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
O prazo da atividade continua na sexta-feira?Is the assignment still due on Friday?
As instruções foram publicadas no portal? Were the instructions posted on the portal?
Vou confirmar o detalhe com a professora.I’ll confirm the detail with the professor.

    Offer to return the favor

A small offer makes the exchange reciprocal. You could share notes after a future absence, send a link you find, or help review for an exam if both of you want that.

Keep the offer genuine and specific rather than promising a large amount of time you may not have.

Brazilian Portuguese examples with English translations: Offer to return the favor
    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
Obrigado! Posso compartilhar minhas anotações na próxima aula. Thanks! I can share my notes in the next class.
Se você faltar outro dia, posso mandar o resumo. If you miss another class, I can send you a summary.
Vamos revisar esse conteúdo juntos antes da prova?Shall we review this material together before the exam?

Remember: Name the missed class, request one specific material, and verify important deadlines with the official course channel.

    Check your understanding

Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.

Faltei à aula de biologia ontem.

Context: Say which class you missed

Não consegui chegar à aula de hoje.

Context: Say which class you missed

Você também estava na aula de literatura?

Context: Say which class you missed

Você pode me dizer quais tópicos foram vistos?

Context: Ask about one useful piece of material

Recall the Portuguese, then say it

Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you

Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.

Name the missed class, request one specific material, and verify important deadlines with the official course channel.

Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
