Portuguese for a School Tour: Class Routines and Daily Questions — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Ask how a normal school day is organized
Rotina escolar is school routine, sala de aula is classroom, and recreio is recess or break. Ask what a typical day looks like and when children eat, rest, or play.
Schedules and classroom routines vary by school and age group. Ask the school to describe its current arrangement rather than assuming it follows a familiar system.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Como é a rotina da turma durante o dia? | What is the class routine like during the day? |
| Que horas é o recreio? | What time is recess? |
| As crianças almoçam na escola? | Do the children have lunch at school? |
Clarify arrival, pickup, and communication
Entrada is arrival or entrance, and saída is departure or exit. Ask where the child should be dropped off and who is authorized to pick them up. Confirm how the school contacts families if the routine changes.
Use agenda to refer to a school communication notebook or planner when that is how the school identifies it. Ask what channel the school currently uses for messages.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Onde devo deixar meu filho na entrada? | Where should I drop my son off at arrival? |
| Como a escola avisa as famílias sobre mudanças? | How does the school notify families about changes? |
Share a child's needs and ask what happens next
Explain a practical need in a short sentence, then ask how the school handles it. If more detailed medical or support information is needed, provide it directly to the school's responsible staff and qualified professionals.
Enrollment steps, documents, and deadlines depend on the school and locality. Ask the school for its current checklist and confirm any dates in writing.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Meu filho ainda está se acostumando com a nova rotina. | My son is still getting used to the new routine. |
| Quais são os próximos passos para a matrícula? | What are the next steps for enrollment? |
| Você pode me enviar a lista de documentos? | Could you send me the list of documents? |
Remember: Ask about the actual daily routine, pickup process, and current enrollment checklist during the school visit.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Ask about the actual daily routine, pickup process, and current enrollment checklist during the school visit.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
