Register for a Road Race in Brazil: Portuguese for Race Day — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Ask about your registration and race number
Inscrição is registration and número de peito is a race bib or number worn on the chest. The organizer may use another name in its instructions, so show your confirmation if you are unsure which number or document is needed.
Ask where to collect the kit or bib and what identification the event requires. Requirements and pickup times vary by race.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Onde retiro meu número de peito? | Where do I pick up my race bib? |
| Preciso apresentar o comprovante de inscrição? | Do I need to show my registration confirmation? |
Find the start area and schedule
Largada is the start of a race and chegada is the finish. Ask where your category starts and what time participants should arrive. Use the event's current schedule rather than relying on an old post or another runner's memory.
If there are separate distances or waves, say your distance when asking for directions.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Onde fica a largada dos cinco quilômetros? | Where is the start for the five-kilometer race? |
| Que horas preciso estar na área de largada? | What time do I need to be at the start area? |
Clarify an instruction with the organizer
If a rule about the course, bag drop, or timing is unclear, ask an event worker to point you to the written instructions or official information channel. Do not assume that one race uses the same procedures as another.
Simple questions such as onde posso confirmar? (where can I confirm?) help you get information from the person responsible for your event.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Onde posso confirmar o percurso oficial? | Where can I confirm the official route? |
| Há um local para deixar a mochila? | Is there a place to leave a backpack? |
Remember: Use the race's own confirmation to check pickup, start, route, and event requirements.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Use the race's own confirmation to check pickup, start, route, and event requirements.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
