Salary Expectations in a Brazilian Portuguese Job Interview — Practice

Give a range and explain what it depends on

Pretensão salarial means salary expectation. You can state a range with entre X e Y, then say that the final number depends on the responsibilities and compensation package. Use bruto for gross salary and líquido for net pay; be clear which one you mean.

Research the role and location before the interview. This guide teaches language, not a market rate or a recommendation about what you should accept.

Ask what the total package includes

Benefícios are benefits, and remuneração total is total compensation. Ask whether the stated amount is monthly and what benefits or variable components are included. Specific offerings depend on the employer and the position.

If you hear a number quickly, repeat it and confirm whether it is before or after deductions. Asking for clarification is more useful than agreeing to an amount you have not understood.

Keep the conversation collaborative

Make the phrase useful to you

Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.

Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
