Buy Mobile Data in Brazil: Portuguese for Prepaid Plans and Top-Ups — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Explain what you need for your phone
Use recarga to talk about adding prepaid credit and pacote de dados for a data package. If you want a physical SIM, ask for um chip; if you need a digital SIM, ask whether eSIM is available for your device and plan.
Say whether you need calls, mobile data, or both. A plan’s price, coverage, duration, and activation steps depend on the provider, so ask the seller to explain the current option before paying.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Quero colocar crédito no meu celular. | I want to add credit to my phone. |
| Este pacote inclui internet móvel? | Does this package include mobile data? |
Check price, validity, and activation
Ask the total price and for how long the package is valid. Validade means validity period; renovar means renew. Ask whether the package starts immediately and whether any steps are needed to activate it.
If you are comparing choices, repeat the details you care about: quero uma opção com internet e validade de trinta dias (I want an option with data and a 30-day validity). Do not assume that a recharge and a data package are interchangeable.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Qual é o preço e por quanto tempo o pacote vale? | What is the price, and how long is the package valid? |
| Preciso fazer alguma coisa para ativar? | Do I need to do anything to activate it? |
Confirm that the phone is connected
After the recharge or activation, check whether the phone connects and whether the plan appears in the provider’s app or confirmation message. If it has not appeared, explain when you paid and ask how to verify the transaction.
Keep the receipt or confirmation until you can see that the package is active. The exact way to check depends on the provider, so follow the instructions associated with your purchase.
Remember: Ask separately about credit, data, price, validity, and activation. Confirm the provider’s instructions instead of assuming every prepaid package works the same way.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Ask separately about credit, data, price, validity, and activation. Confirm the provider’s instructions instead of assuming every prepaid package works the same way.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
