Meet Bruno and the teaching teamWhat this review does and does not establish
Disclosure: Bruno Lopes is a co-founder of Real Life Portuguese. This is a documentation-based review, checked on October 21, 2026. We have not run a paid-account trial, compared learner outcomes or measured Busuu’s feedback quality. The practice below is our original teaching material, not a Busuu lesson.
Our assessment is about fit: a guided path can help you decide what to study next; feedback becomes more useful when you can apply it to a fresh sentence. Neither a feature list nor our exercise can establish how quickly you will learn.
Does Busuu teach Brazilian Portuguese?
Yes. Busuu’s official Portuguese course page identifies Complete Portuguese as Brazilian Portuguese. It lists 140+ lessons covering A1–B2, practice across speaking, listening, reading and writing, vocabulary work, and feedback from Portuguese speakers. It also lists a separate Portuguese for Travel course.
The level range describes course coverage. It does not establish that completing the course gives every learner B2 ability, or that community feedback is a formal proficiency assessment. Check the current access conditions and the actual tasks available in your account before paying.
Decide which part of your routine needs a course
| Your current problem | A useful check in a sample | A follow-up outside the sample |
|---|---|---|
| I do not know what to study next. | Can you find a suitable starting lesson and understand the sequence? | Choose one real situation that the next lesson could help you handle. |
| I recognise words but cannot answer. | Does the task give you a chance to formulate a reply? | Answer again with one changed detail and no visible model. |
| I receive corrections but repeat the mistake. | Can you understand what changed and why? | Use the corrected pattern in a new sentence about your life. |
These are evaluation questions, not claims that a specific screen or exercise is available on every Busuu plan. If you already have a routine, avoid adding another tool without naming the task it will serve.
Turn a correction into something you can say next time
Imagine you wrote Eu gosto café and received the correction Eu gosto de café — “I like coffee.” The useful next step is to notice gostar de and produce another preference, such as Eu gosto de cozinhar — “I like cooking.”
This is an invented teaching example, not a submission or response collected from Busuu. You can apply the same sequence to feedback from a teacher: identify the change, explain it in a few words, then make a fresh reply. If you cannot explain a correction, ask before turning it into a rule.
Keep the context too. A correction might fix one sentence without showing every register, regional alternative or meaning. For more practice with this particular pattern, see gostar de: expressing likes and dislikes.
Original exercise: use the pattern instead of copying the sentence
- Start with Eu gosto de café. Say that you like travelling instead.
- A friend asks Você gosta de cozinhar? — “Do you like cooking?” Give a short affirmative answer about yourself.
- Change the subject to “we”: Eu gosto de música.
- You are unsure why a correction added de. What should you do before saving a rule?
Answers and explanations
- Eu gosto de viajar. Keep the construction and change the activity.
- Gosto, sim. Your answer is first person, even though the question used gosta.
- Nós gostamos de música. Change the verb to agree with “we.”
- Ask for an explanation and another example. One corrected line does not tell you the whole grammar rule.
Finish by making a preference that is true for you. If the model is still necessary, return to it and try again later. This is a practice check, not a scored placement test.
Where Busuu and Real Life Portuguese fit
For someone seeking a sequenced course across several skills, Busuu’s documented structure makes it a reasonable option to investigate. If your immediate goal is to connect everyday Brazilian expressions with native audio, also explore Real Life Portuguese. The two jobs can be complementary, but there is no need to maintain two subscriptions unless you use both.
Before choosing, name one conversation you want to handle, try relevant material where available, and check the current price, renewal conditions and included access directly. We have not verified a universal price or a free-versus-paid feature boundary for every country and platform.
For the broader decision, use our Brazilian Portuguese app comparison. For an audio-led alternative, read the Pimsleur documentation review.
Build a listening-and-response routine
For related teaching practice, explore our guide to speaking, grammar, subtitles and accent. These exercises apply the idea of listening and then creating your own message. They are original written activities, not additional episode recordings.
Explore Real Life Portuguese for native Brazilian audio and everyday expressions. Pick one phrase relevant to your next conversation, listen in context, then create one new reply of your own. Keep a structured course if it helps you organise the rest of your learning.
