Cancel a Subscription in Brazilian Portuguese: Ask and Confirm — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Make the request direct and specific
Use cancelar to cancel and assinatura for a subscription. Name the service and, if needed, the account holder or plan so the representative can locate the right account. Share sensitive account details only through the provider’s official channel.
You can explain your preference briefly, but you do not have to give a long reason to make the request clear. Ask the agent to tell you if any additional step is required.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Quero cancelar minha assinatura deste serviço. | I want to cancel my subscription to this service. |
| O cancelamento pode ser feito por aqui? | Can the cancellation be completed here? |
Ask when the cancellation takes effect
Confirm the effective date and whether access continues until then. Ask whether the provider expects another payment or sends a final statement. These details depend on the contract and service, so rely on the account-specific answer rather than a general assumption.
If you are being offered a different plan, you can say prefiro seguir com o cancelamento (I prefer to continue with the cancellation) when that reflects your decision.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| A partir de que data o cancelamento vale? | From what date does the cancellation take effect? |
| Vai haver alguma cobrança final? | Will there be a final charge? |
Keep proof that the request was completed
Ask for a confirmation email or message and note the protocol number if one is provided. Read the confirmation to check that it names the right service and cancellation date.
If you later need to contact the company again, give the reference number and the date of your first request. Keep the exchange factual and ask for the next step if the confirmation does not match what you agreed.
Remember: Request cancellation, confirm the effective date and any final charge, and keep the provider’s confirmation for your records.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Request cancellation, confirm the effective date and any final charge, and keep the provider’s confirmation for your records.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
