Ask about the route and distance

Trilha is a trail or hiking path, and percurso is a route or course. Ask how long a route is and whether the stated distance is one way or round trip. Trail names, distances, and access details depend on the specific location, so confirm them with a local source.

For a walking route, you may also hear caminho. When you ask about duration, tempo estimado means estimated time; it is not a guarantee of how long every group will take.

    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
Qual é a distância desta trilha? How long is this trail?
Esse percurso é de ida e volta? Is this route out and back?
Qual é o tempo estimado? What is the estimated time?

Check how challenging the hike is

Ask whether a trail is considered easy, moderate, or difficult: fácil, moderada, or difícil. You can ask about inclines, uneven ground, or steps to understand what the route involves, then use local guidance to decide whether it suits your group.

Ask staff or a guide what a difficulty label means for that particular route instead of assuming that ‘easy’ means the same thing everywhere.

Como você classificaria o nível de dificuldade? How would you describe the difficulty level?
Há muitas subidas ou trechos com pedras? Are there many uphill sections or rocky stretches?

    Confirm where the trail starts

Início means beginning or start. Ask where the trailhead is and whether you should check in somewhere before setting off. Some locations use marked entrances or official routes; follow the current directions for the place you are visiting.

If you are walking with a group, repeat the meeting point and start time so everyone arrives in the same place.

    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
Onde começa a trilha?Where does the trail start?

Remember: Confirm distance, estimated duration, difficulty, route, and start point with a current local source before you hike.

    Check your understanding

Recall the Portuguese, then say it

Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you

Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.

Confirm distance, estimated duration, difficulty, route, and start point with a current local source before you hike.

Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
