At a National Park in Brazil: Portuguese for Trails and Visitor Information — Practice

A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.

Ask which trails are open to visitors

A parque nacional is a national park, and a visitante is a visitor. Ask which trails are open today and whether you need to register, reserve a time, or follow a particular entrance procedure. Access can change, so check current information.

Do not rely on an old guide for schedules, fees, or closures. Staff and official signs can confirm what applies on the day of your visit.

Brazilian Portuguese examples with English translations: Ask which trails are open to visitors
    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
Quais trilhas estão abertas hoje?Which trails are open today?
Preciso me cadastrar antes de entrar?Do I need to register before entering?

    Request a map and directions

Mapa means map. Ask whether the visitor center has a map of marked trails and where each route begins. A map may use symbols or color codes, so ask staff to explain any mark you do not understand.

Sinalização da trilha means trail signage or markings. Ask whether the route is marked and what to do if you reach an unclear junction.

Brazilian Portuguese examples with English translations: Request a map and directions
    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
Vocês têm um mapa das trilhas?Do you have a map of the trails?
Como identifico a trilha sinalizada? How do I identify the marked trail?

    Check facilities and visitor rules

Ask where the banheiros (restrooms), água potável (drinking water), or visitor facilities are, if those services matter to your plan. Staff can tell you what is available at that location and whether there are restrictions.

Follow posted rules about access, wildlife, fires, and waste. If something is unclear, ask a staff member before entering the area.

Brazilian Portuguese examples with English translations: Check facilities and visitor rules
    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
Onde ficam os banheiros?Where are the restrooms?
Há alguma regra específica para esta área? Are there any specific rules for this area?

Remember: Use current park information for trail openings, registration, fees, facilities, and visitor rules. Conditions vary between parks and dates.

    Check your understanding

Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.

Recall the Portuguese, then say it

Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you

Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.

Use current park information for trail openings, registration, fees, facilities, and visitor rules. Conditions vary between parks and dates.

Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
