Nature Photography in Brazil: Ask About Photos and Park Rules in Portuguese — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Ask whether photography is allowed
Fotografia means photography, and fotografar means to photograph. Before taking a picture in a protected or managed area, ask whether photography is allowed and whether any restrictions apply to the location or equipment.
Rules can differ between parks, exhibits, and activities. Follow staff directions and posted signs, even if another visitor is taking pictures.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| É permitido fotografar nesta área? | Is photography allowed in this area? |
| Há alguma restrição para usar tripé? | Are there any restrictions on using a tripod? |
Describe the view or ask what you are seeing
Vista means view, and paisagem means landscape. Ask the name of a mountain, plant, or viewpoint when you do not recognize it. A guide or interpretive sign can provide more reliable identification than a guess.
For wildlife, describe what you noticed without assuming the species: vi um pássaro azul (I saw a blue bird). If the animal is unfamiliar, ask a guide from a respectful distance and do not approach it for a photo.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Como se chama este mirante? | What is this viewpoint called? |
| Você sabe que pássaro é aquele? | Do you know what kind of bird that is? |
Check rules for sharing images
Some activities or areas may have additional rules for commercial photography, drones, or sharing images of other people. Ask the responsible staff and respect other visitors’ privacy before photographing them.
A straightforward question is posso tirar uma foto? (may I take a photo?). Ask the person, not only the staff, before including them in an image.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Posso tirar uma foto sua? | May I take a photo of you? |
| Preciso de autorização para usar drone? | Do I need permission to use a drone? |
Remember: Ask the park or activity operator about current photography rules, and get a person’s permission before taking or sharing their image.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Ask the park or activity operator about current photography rules, and get a person’s permission before taking or sharing their image.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
