At a Brazilian Museum: Ask About Audio Description and Accessible Guides — Practice

A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.

    October 20, 2026 4 min practice

Ask about audio and written resources

Audiodescrição is audio description. Letra ampliada means large print, and material em Braille means Braille material. Ask whether the museum has the format you prefer and whether it is available in the exhibit you plan to see.

A resource may be available only for some rooms, tours, or times. Ask staff to describe the current options for your visit.

Há audiodescrição nesta exposição?Is audio description available in this exhibition?
Vocês têm material em letra ampliada ou em Braille?Do you have large-print or Braille material?

Check whether tactile resources are available

Recurso tátil is a tactile resource, such as a model intended to be explored by touch. Do not touch display objects unless staff or a sign says it is permitted; ask whether there is an item designed for tactile access.

If a guided tour would help, ask whether one is available and what format it uses. The museum can explain its current schedule and reservation process.

    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
Existe algum recurso tátil nesta sala?Is there a tactile resource in this room?
Há uma visita guiada acessível hoje?Is there an accessible guided tour today?

Ask about the route through the museum

Ask which entrance is accessible and whether the route includes an elevator or steps. If you need to avoid a particular section or surface, explain that and request directions that fit your visit.

Follow staff guidance about exhibit boundaries and current route closures.

Brazilian Portuguese examples with English translations: Ask about the route through the museum
    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
Qual é o caminho acessível até a exposição?What is the accessible route to the exhibition?

Remember: Ask the museum which resources and routes are available today, and follow staff directions inside the exhibits.

    Check your understanding

Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.

Recall the Portuguese, then say it

Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you

Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.

Ask the museum which resources and routes are available today, and follow staff directions inside the exhibits.

Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
