Ask for a Baby Changing Table or Family Bathroom in Portuguese — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Ask whether there is a changing table
A changing table is a trocador. Ask Tem um trocador? or Onde fica o trocador? A family bathroom may be called banheiro família, banheiro familiar, or simply a bathroom with a changing table, depending on the venue's wording.
The facility's layout can vary. If the first person you ask is unsure, try the reception desk or another staff member.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Onde fica o banheiro com trocador? | Where is the bathroom with a changing table? |
| Tem um banheiro família neste andar? | Is there a family bathroom on this floor? |
Ask for another suitable space
If there is no changing table nearby, explain what you need and ask where you may go. A private room is uma sala reservada. Use por favor and a short sentence to make the request easy to understand.
Do not assume that a nursing or family room is available. Ask the venue's staff for the current arrangement.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Existe uma sala reservada que eu possa usar? | Is there a private room I can use? |
| Você pode me indicar um lugar mais tranquilo? | Could you point me to a quieter place? |
Follow the directions and confirm the location
If someone gives directions, ask É perto daqui? (Is it near here?) or Você pode me mostrar no mapa? (Could you show me on the map?). Repeat a floor or landmark before you leave.
A few location words help you follow the answer: andar (floor), ao lado de (next to), and em frente a (across from).
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Então, fica no segundo andar, ao lado do elevador? | So it's on the second floor, next to the elevator? |
| Obrigado por me ajudar a encontrar. | Thank you for helping me find it. (speaker: man) |
Remember: Ask for a trocador first. If the facility is elsewhere or unavailable, ask staff to point you to a suitable space.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Ask for a trocador first. If the facility is elsewhere or unavailable, ask staff to point you to a suitable space.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
