Ficar por Dentro: Say ‘Stay in the Loop’ in Portuguese — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Use ficar por dentro de a topic or situation
Ficar por dentro de means to stay informed about something or know what is happening. It works for a project, a family plan, a news topic, or a change you want to keep up with. After por dentro, use de before the subject you are following.
You may hear ficar por dentro for an ongoing goal and estar por dentro when someone already knows the latest information. The first can highlight becoming or remaining informed; the second often describes the current state.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Quero ficar por dentro das novidades do projeto. | I want to stay in the loop about the project updates. |
| Você está por dentro da mudança de horário? | Are you up to date on the schedule change? |
| Ela acompanha as notícias para ficar por dentro do assunto. | She follows the news to stay informed about the subject. |
Ask someone to keep you informed
To ask for updates, combine the expression with avisar (let someone know), manter informado/informada (keep informed), or me contar (tell me). These choices range from casual to more explicit. Choose the one that fits your relationship and situation.
Por dentro de can also refer to being familiar with the internal details of a process. In a work conversation, make the topic clear so the listener knows whether you mean an update or deeper involvement.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Me avisa se tiver alguma novidade. | Let me know if there’s any news. |
| Pode me manter por dentro das próximas etapas? | Could you keep me in the loop about the next steps? |
| Ainda não estou por dentro de todos os detalhes. | I’m not up to speed on all the details yet. |
Remember: Use ficar por dentro de to stay informed about a topic; estar por dentro describes being up to date already.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Use ficar por dentro de to stay informed about a topic; estar por dentro describes being up to date already.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
