Join an Art Class in Brazil: Portuguese for Sign-Up and Materials — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Ask about the class and experience level
Use aula de arte for art class and turma for group or class cohort. Ask whether the class is suitable for beginners with É uma aula para iniciantes? If you already have experience, briefly describe what you have studied.
Schedule, format, and registration details vary by studio. Confirm the current time, price, and cancellation terms with the provider.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| A turma aceita pessoas sem experiência? | Does the class accept people with no experience? |
| A aula acontece uma vez por semana? | Does the class meet once a week? |
Find out which materials to bring
Material means art supplies or materials. Ask whether the studio provides them or whether you should bring your own: Preciso levar os materiais? Name a specific item when you need to check it.
The teacher may have a preferred paper, brush, or tool for the activity. Ask before buying supplies so you do not arrive with an unsuitable size or type.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| O estúdio fornece tinta e papel? | Does the studio provide paint and paper? |
| Qual tipo de pincel eu devo levar? | What kind of brush should I bring? |
Clarify how to sign up
Inscrição means registration. Ask how to register and whether the materials fee is included in the current price. Use the provider's explanation to understand what you are signing up for.
Repeat the date and location back to confirm your place. A short confirmation avoids confusion between a one-time workshop and a recurring class.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Como faço a inscrição? | How do I register? |
| Então, a primeira aula é na quarta, às seis? | So the first class is on Wednesday at six? |
Remember: Ask about level, supplies, schedule, and registration separately so you know what to bring and what the class includes.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Ask about level, supplies, schedule, and registration separately so you know what to bring and what the class includes.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.

This I Speak Portuguese practice guide builds on our Join an Art Class in Brazil: Portuguese for Sign-Up and Materials lesson on Real Life Portuguese, with written recall tasks and additional speaking practice. The explanations and examples are teaching material; the practice questions are exercises, not a transcript of a recording.
