Ask for More Time on a Work Task in Brazilian Portuguese — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
State what you need and name the task
Use prazo for a deadline and entrega for a delivery or submission. To ask for more time, say Preciso de mais tempo para… (I need more time to…) or Seria possível entregar…? (Would it be possible to deliver…?). A specific task keeps the request easy to understand.
A brief explanation can help the other person assess the change. Keep it factual: mention which part is still in progress rather than apologizing at length.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Preciso de mais tempo para terminar o relatório. | I need more time to finish the report. |
| Seria possível entregar a primeira versão amanhã de manhã? | Would it be possible to deliver the first draft tomorrow morning? |
| A análise está pronta; falta revisar os números. | The analysis is ready; I still need to review the numbers. |
Offer a new time and confirm the agreement
Instead of leaving the timing open, propose a new day or hour. You can ask whether the change works and repeat the agreed deadline back. If part of the task is urgent, suggest sending that part first.
The phrases below help with language. Follow your workplace’s process for requesting or approving changes to deadlines.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Consigo enviar tudo até sexta-feira. Esse prazo funciona? | I can send everything by Friday. Does that deadline work? |
| Posso mandar a parte urgente hoje e o restante amanhã. | I can send the urgent part today and the rest tomorrow. |
| Combinado: envio a versão final na sexta. | Agreed: I’ll send the final version on Friday. |
Remember: Name the task, say what remains, and propose a new deadline. Confirm the revised time so both people understand the same plan.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.
I need more time to finish the report.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Name the task, say what remains, and propose a new deadline. Confirm the revised time so both people understand the same plan.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
