Roommate Group Chat in Portuguese: Household Updates That Stay Clear — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Put the action in the first sentence
A household chat may include schedules, deliveries, bills, and informal conversation. Begin with the item people need to notice, then add the date or action. Use aviso (I am letting you know) for an update and alguém pode…? (can someone…?) for a request.
If a message is about a specific day, write the day instead of saying amanhã when people might read the message later.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Aviso: o técnico vem na quinta entre duas e quatro. | Just a heads-up: the technician is coming Thursday between two and four. |
| Alguém pode receber a encomenda depois das cinco? | Can someone receive the package after five? |
Confirm who is handling a task
When a task has several possible helpers, ask for a clear response and confirm who will do it. A short combinado (agreed) can be enough after the plan is clear; it is less useful when nobody knows which date or task you mean.
For a shared purchase, name the item and whether someone should add it to the next shopping trip.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Eu posso comprar o detergente hoje. Tudo bem? | I can buy the detergent today. Is that okay? |
| Combinado: você recebe a entrega e eu guardo a compra. | Agreed: you receive the delivery and I put the groceries away. |
Move sensitive conversations out of the group
A group chat is useful for logistics, but a private conversation may be kinder when you are raising a disagreement with one roommate. State the issue calmly and ask to talk rather than posting a public accusation.
Do not share a roommate's private message or personal details in the household group without permission.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Queria conversar com você sobre uma coisa da casa. Podemos falar hoje? | I wanted to talk with you about something at home. Can we talk today? |
| Vou te mandar uma mensagem em particular para explicar melhor. | I will send you a private message to explain more clearly. |
Remember: Start with the action and date, confirm who is handling it, and use a private conversation for personal disagreements.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Start with the action and date, confirm who is handling it, and use a private conversation for personal disagreements.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
