Bruno includes tamo junto among informal closing expressions in his seven everyday expressions video. This guide extends that starting point into three original practice exchanges: offering support, acknowledging thanks and saying goodbye. They are written teaching examples, not a transcript or further quotations from the episode.
The phrase relates to estamos juntos — “we are together.” The short form signals informal speech. In standard formal writing, estamos juntos is the expected full form. You can recognise the casual expression without needing to use it yourself.
It is not inherently a declaration that two people are dating. Friends and other people on friendly terms can use it to express solidarity. If you need to clarify a relationship, ask about the relationship directly; this expression alone does not settle it.
Situation 1: offer support
A: Estou nervoso com a apresentação de amanhã.
I’m nervous about tomorrow’s presentation. (A male speaker.)
B: Se quiser, a gente pode ensaiar hoje. Tamo junto!
If you want, we can rehearse today. I’m here for you!
A: Valeu! Você pode às sete?
Thanks! Are you available at seven?
The offer to rehearse makes the support concrete. Tamo junto adds friendliness, while Você pode às sete? asks about an actual time. A more neutral supportive phrase is Pode contar comigo — “You can count on me.” Offer only the help you can provide.
Situation 2: respond to a friend’s thanks
A: Valeu por me ajudar com as caixas.
Thanks for helping me with the boxes.
B: Tamo junto! Deu tudo certo?
Of course, happy to help! Did everything work out?
A: Deu, sim. Agora só falta organizar.
Yes, it did. Now I just need to organise everything.
Here it acknowledges the thanks and reinforces the friendly connection. “We are physically together” would miss the function of the reply. For a more neutral response to thanks, de nada — “you’re welcome” — works. Our guide to sem problema and imagina offers other options.
Situation 3: close a friendly conversation
A: Preciso ir agora. Depois a gente conversa.
I need to go now. We’ll talk later.
B: Beleza. Tamo junto!
Okay. Take care, we’re good!
A: Valeu! Até mais.
Thanks! See you.
The departure makes it a closing exchange. You do not need to translate it identically to the support example above. If you prefer a straightforward goodbye, choose até mais or a gente se vê — “see you.”
Friendly solidarity does not specify a plan
If you ask a friend for help moving and receive only tamo junto, the reply sounds supportive, but it does not state a time, location or task. Clarify the details before making arrangements:
- Valeu! Então você consegue chegar às nove? — “Thanks! So can you arrive at nine?”
- Você consegue me ajudar a carregar as caixas? — “Can you help me carry the boxes?”
- Se não puder, me avisa para eu me organizar. — “If you can’t, let me know so I can plan.”
This is a practical communication check, not a claim that the phrase is insincere. Warmth and logistical detail serve different purposes. You can also use a short understanding check to repeat back what was actually agreed.
Practice: choose a response that fits
These original written exercises focus on the function of the reply. Say an answer before opening the suggestions.
- A friend says Valeu por me ouvir — “Thanks for listening to me.” What can tamo junto communicate here?
- A friend ends a call with Tamo junto! Até mais. Does that by itself establish a romantic relationship?
- You asked for help at nine, but the only answer was tamo junto. Ask a question that confirms availability at nine.
- You want to thank a teacher in a formal email. Choose a clear full sentence rather than copying a friendly chat closing.
Suggested answers and explanations
- A friendly acknowledgement such as “I’m here for you.” The earlier thanks supplies the context. It is not necessarily a statement about being in the same place.
- No. It can be a casual expression of solidarity or a friendly closing. You need other information to describe the relationship.
- Então você consegue chegar às nove? — “So can you arrive at nine?” This checks a concrete detail the short supportive reply did not state.
- Agradeço pela ajuda com a atividade. — “Thank you for your help with the activity.” The wording fits the stated purpose. Other polite, complete thank-you sentences also work.
For your next rehearsal, choose one of the three dialogues and change the situation. Try a neutral response too, so that understanding a casual phrase does not depend on always repeating it.

Frequently asked questions
What does tamo junto mean in English?
It is a very informal expression of togetherness or solidarity. Depending on context, it can offer support, acknowledge thanks or close a friendly conversation.
Does tamo junto mean we are dating?
Not by itself. Friends can use it to express solidarity or say goodbye. Ask about the relationship directly if you need to clarify it.
Is tamo junto enough to confirm a practical plan?
It can sound supportive, but it does not state details such as time, place or task. Ask a concrete follow-up question when you need those details.
What can I say instead of tamo junto?
Choose for the situation: pode contar comigo to offer support, de nada to reply to thanks, or até mais to say goodbye. They are not interchangeable in every exchange.
