How to Ask About Accessibility in Portuguese: Entrances, Routes, and Support — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Ask what accessibility features are available
Acessibilidade means accessibility, and recurso de acessibilidade is an accessibility feature or resource. Ask a venue what it offers rather than assuming the same features are available everywhere.
In Brazil, pessoa com deficiência is a common respectful term. When talking with an individual, address them directly and follow the words and communication method they prefer.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Quais recursos de acessibilidade o local oferece? | What accessibility features does the venue offer? |
| Como posso solicitar esse apoio? | How can I request that support? |
Check the entrance and route
Ask whether an entrance has stairs, whether there is a ramp or elevator, and which route visitors should use. An answer about the entrance does not automatically describe the route inside, so ask about each part that matters for your visit.
Use sem degraus for ‘without steps’ and entrada acessível for ‘accessible entrance.’ Ask staff to confirm the current route before you travel there.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Existe uma entrada sem degraus? | Is there a step-free entrance? |
| Há elevador até o espaço do evento? | Is there an elevator to the event space? |
Explain the support you need
You can describe a practical request without sharing personal details: preciso de um lugar para sentar (I need somewhere to sit) or prefiro receber as instruções por escrito (I prefer to receive the instructions in writing). Be as specific as you want.
If a staff member offers an option, repeat the detail that matters—entrance, floor, seat, or meeting point—to check that you understood.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Preciso confirmar o caminho acessível até a sala. | I need to confirm the accessible route to the room. |
| Você pode me explicar as opções disponíveis? | Could you explain the available options? |
Remember: Ask the venue to confirm the specific feature, route, and support you need. Availability varies by location and event.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Ask the venue to confirm the specific feature, route, and support you need. Availability varies by location and event.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
