Pode Anotar? Ask for Travel Details in Writing in Portuguese

A busy counter is a difficult place to catch an unfamiliar street name or several times. Ask for the particular detail in writing, then confirm what it refers to. Written information is easier to review, but it still needs context.

Ask for the detail you missed

Pode anotar para mim, por favor? — “Can you write it down for me, please?” Specify the item if several things were discussed: Pode anotar o endereço? — “Can you write down the address?” For a time, ask Pode mostrar o horário por escrito? — “Can you show the time in writing?”

Anotar is to note or write something down. If you want a message instead, ask Pode me mandar esses detalhes por mensagem? — “Can you send me those details by message?” Use a channel you choose; a business may have another way to provide the information.

Check what the written detail describes

An isolated “15h” is not enough if you have discussed both departure and collection. Ask Esse é o horário de saída? — “Is this the departure time?” For an address, Esta é a entrada principal ou o ponto de encontro? asks whether it is the main entrance or the meeting point.

For a quote, Esse valor é o total? checks whether the written amount is the total. Do not assume that having something in writing automatically guarantees availability, confirms payment or completes a reservation. Ask what is confirmed and what is only information.

    A departure point with a useful read-back

Staff: O grupo sai por outra entrada. — The group leaves from another entrance.
You: Pode anotar o ponto de encontro e o horário? — Can you write down the meeting point and time?
Staff: Claro. Aqui estão. — Of course. Here they are.
You: Então este é o ponto de encontro, e preciso estar lá às oito? — So this is the meeting point, and I need to be there at eight?

The traveler checks the location’s role and the required arrival time. That is more useful than nodding at a note. If you cannot read a word, ask Pode escrever esse nome de novo? — “Can you write that name again?”

Practice asking for less, then checking more

    1. You understand the explanation but missed the street name. Ask for only the address in writing.
    2. A note contains two times. Ask which is departure and which is the meeting time.
    3. A written offer looks promising, but you do not know whether a place is reserved. Ask.
    Show possible answers
    1. Pode anotar só o endereço, por favor?
    2. Qual é o horário de saída e qual é o horário de encontro?
    3. Isso já é uma reserva ou é só uma consulta? — Is this already a reservation or only an inquiry?

Write a fictional address and two times for a partner. Have them ask what each line means. Avoid using real guests’ details or private messages in shared practice. The exercise is about checking the meaning of a note, not collecting more information than you need.

Listen to a short phrase in Real Life Portuguese without reading first, then check the written version available in the lesson. For this travel drill, practice asking for one written detail and reading back its meaning.

    Frequently asked questions

    What does pode anotar mean?

It asks whether someone can write or note something down. Add the detail you need, such as o endereço or o horário.

Does a written quote confirm my booking?

Not necessarily. Ask whether it is only an inquiry or an actual confirmed reservation, and check the provider’s answer.
