Só Estou Pesquisando: Ask for Information Without Booking in Portuguese

You want to understand an offer before deciding. Make that stage clear: you are asking, comparing or checking—not yet confirming. These phrases help prevent a friendly conversation about options from becoming an unclear yes.

State that you are gathering information

Por enquanto, só estou pesquisando. — “For now, I’m just researching.” In a shop, Só estou olhando, obrigado means “I’m just looking, thank you.” For a service, be more specific: Quero saber os valores antes de decidir. — “I want to know the prices before deciding.”

You can still ask detailed questions. Wanting a schedule or quote does not require pretending you have already chosen. If you are unsure what the staff is doing, ask Você está só consultando ou já está fazendo uma reserva? — “Are you only checking, or are you already making a booking?”

    Avoid an ambiguous acceptance

Pode ser can communicate that an option works or that you accept it. If you are not ready to choose, say Parece interessante, mas ainda não decidi. — “It looks interesting, but I haven’t decided yet.” That separates your positive reaction from a decision.

To stop an action you did not intend, use Ainda não quero confirmar. — “I don’t want to confirm yet.” For a written quote, Pode me enviar as opções por escrito? asks for the options in writing. These are communication examples, not advice about whether a particular exchange creates a contract.

A price inquiry with a clear ending

You: Queria saber os horários do passeio. — I’d like to know the outing times.
Staff: Tem às nove e às duas. Quer que eu reserve? — There are departures at nine and two. Would you like me to book?
You: Ainda não. Estou comparando as opções. Pode me passar os valores? — Not yet. I’m comparing options. Can you give me the prices?
    Staff: Claro. — Of course.

The traveler declines the booking action while continuing the inquiry. If you later choose one, say so explicitly and ask to review the details. Do not rely on your earlier “That looks interesting” as the only indication of what you want.

    Practice marking the decision stage

    1. You like an option but need to speak to your partner first. Say that without accepting.
    2. A staff member offers to reserve a time. Decline for now and request written details.
    3. You have finished comparing and want to review one option before confirming. Make both steps clear.
    Show possible replies
    1. Gostei, mas preciso conversar com minha companheira antes de decidir.
    2. Ainda não quero reservar. Pode me passar os detalhes por escrito?
    3. Quero essa opção. Podemos conferir os detalhes antes de confirmar?

During a role-play, ask your partner to offer a booking halfway through the conversation. Practice answering “not yet” clearly, then continue with your real question. Politeness and a precise decision can appear in the same sentence.
