Incluído or À Parte? Ask About Extra Charges in Portuguese

A quoted amount is useful only when you understand what it covers. Ask about the specific service you want, whether it is charged separately, and the total before deciding. This is language practice, not a list of universal prices or billing rules.

Attach included to a specific service

Está incluído? means “Is it included?” Make the subject clear: O transporte está incluído nesse valor? — “Is transport included in that amount?” A bare “Is everything included?” may leave both people with different ideas of what “everything” means.

É cobrado à parte. means “It is charged separately.” It is not another way of saying free. Tem um custo adicional means “There is an additional charge.” Ask what that charge is before deciding whether the offer suits you.

Keep the amount and its scope together

    QuestionMeaningWhat it clarifies
Esse valor inclui a entrega?Does that amount include delivery?A specific service
A taxa é por pessoa ou por grupo? Is the fee per person or per group? The unit being charged
Qual é o total com esse serviço?What is the total with that service? The combined amount
Pode mostrar os itens separadamente? Can you show the items separately? The breakdown

You need not accuse anyone of hiding a fee. State what you are trying to understand. If you do not recognize a line on a quote, point to it and ask A que se refere este valor? — “What does this amount refer to?”

A quote with a separate transfer

You: O passeio inclui o transporte? — Does the outing include transport?
Staff: Não. O transporte é cobrado à parte. — No. Transport is charged separately.
You: Quanto fica o total para duas pessoas, com transporte? — What is the total for two people, including transport?
Staff: Vou calcular e mostrar por escrito. — I’ll calculate it and show you in writing.

The final amount has not yet been supplied. Do not answer “Confirmed” if you are still comparing. Say Obrigado. Quero ver o total antes de decidir. — “Thank you. I want to see the total before deciding.” Confirm the actual provider’s offer; this fictional conversation establishes no package inclusions.

    Practice the missing question

    1. You know the room rate but not whether breakfast is included. Ask specifically.
    2. You hear that delivery is charged separately. Ask for the combined amount.
    3. A quote lists two amounts you do not recognize. Request a breakdown rather than assuming one is optional.
    Show possible answers
    1. O café da manhã está incluído na diária? — Is breakfast included in the nightly rate?
    2. Qual é o total com a entrega? — What is the total including delivery?
    3. Pode explicar esses dois valores separadamente? — Can you explain these two amounts separately?

Finish the exercise by restating both the service and the amount in one sentence. If either is missing, you have more to ask. Understanding a number is not the same as understanding the offer attached to it.
