CELPE-Bras Study Plan: A Practical Four-Week Portuguese Routine — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Week one: find your starting point
Try one sample task or a short activity in each skill area. Notice which part is hardest: understanding the material, organizing ideas, choosing a tone, or speaking spontaneously.
Choose two priorities for the month and set a realistic number of study sessions. Consistency matters more than writing an ambitious schedule you cannot keep.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Consigo entender a ideia principal, mas perco alguns detalhes. | I can understand the main idea, but I miss some details. |
| Quero organizar melhor meus textos antes de escrever. | I want to organize my texts better before writing. |
Weeks two and three: practise skills together
Build sessions that connect comprehension to communication: listen and summarize, read and respond, or discuss a prompt and then write a short follow-up. This reflects how real language tasks require more than recalling isolated rules.
Alternate focused practice with speaking aloud. Record a short response if that helps you hear repeated pauses or unclear connections, then try again with one specific goal.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Depois de ouvir a entrevista, vou resumir duas ideias importantes. | After listening to the interview, I will summarize two important ideas. |
| Li a notícia e agora vou escrever uma resposta para o organizador. | I read the news story and now I will write a response to the organizer. |
Week four: review and protect your energy
Complete one timed practice using the official instructions for the edition you will take. Review it carefully, but avoid cramming brand-new grammar topics at the last minute.
Use the final sessions to revisit your error log, practise clear answers, and confirm practical details from INEP's current guidance. The exact exam schedule and rules depend on the edition.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Vou revisar minhas anotações e dormir bem na véspera. | I will review my notes and sleep well the night before. |
| Já confirmei o local, o horário e os documentos necessários. | I have confirmed the location, time, and required documents. |
Remember: Adjust the routine to your current level and available time; a study plan supports preparation but cannot guarantee a certificate level.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.
I can understand the main idea, but I miss some details.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Adjust the routine to your current level and available time; a study plan supports preparation but cannot guarantee a certificate level.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
Sources and your next lesson
This I Speak Portuguese practice guide builds on our CELPE-Bras Study Plan: A Practical Four-Week Portuguese Routine lesson on Real Life Portuguese, with written recall tasks and additional speaking practice. The explanations and examples are teaching material; the practice questions are exercises, not a transcript of a recording.
To add Brazilian audio to your routine, choose a lesson in the Real Life Portuguese app. The app offers its own lessons and practice; this page does not imply that every example here has an app recording.
