CELPE-Bras Written Part: Practice Integrated Portuguese Writing — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Read the task before you take notes
Before listening or reading, identify the requested action and the relationship between writer and reader. A note to a friend, a public announcement, and a formal request need different levels of detail and different language.
Underline the task's verbs: explain, invite, summarize, respond, or recommend. These verbs reveal what the final text must do.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Resuma as principais informações para seus colegas. | Summarize the main information for your classmates. |
| Responda ao organizador e confirme sua participação. | Reply to the organizer and confirm your participation. |
Select details that support the purpose
Do not copy every detail from a source. Choose the information your reader needs to understand your message and complete the requested action. Keep the central point, important conditions, and relevant evidence.
A simple note system can help: main idea, useful detail, and response. Write keywords while listening or reading, then turn them into complete sentences in your own words.

| A atividade será no sábado, às dez, na biblioteca. | The activity will be on Saturday at ten at the library. |
| A inscrição é gratuita, mas precisa ser feita até sexta-feira. | Registration is free, but it must be completed by Friday. |
Draft, revise, and check the reader's needs
Give the text a beginning that establishes the situation, a middle that communicates the key information, and an ending that completes the action. Use connectors to show how ideas relate instead of adding formal-sounding phrases at random.
Leave a moment to check whether you answered every part of the prompt. Then review verb forms, agreement, spelling, and whether the tone suits the reader.

| Olá, pessoal! A feira de troca será neste sábado. Quem quiser participar pode trazer até três livros. Espero vocês lá! | Hi, everyone! The swap fair will be this Saturday. Anyone who wants to take part can bring up to three books. I hope to see you there! |
| Prezada equipe, escrevo para confirmar minha inscrição e perguntar se devo levar algum documento. | Dear team, I am writing to confirm my registration and ask whether I should bring any documents. |
Remember: A strong response connects accurate details from the source to the purpose and reader named in the prompt.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
A strong response connects accurate details from the source to the purpose and reader named in the prompt.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
Sources and your next lesson
This I Speak Portuguese practice guide builds on our CELPE-Bras Written Part: Practice Integrated Portuguese Writing lesson on Real Life Portuguese, with written recall tasks and additional speaking practice. The explanations and examples are teaching material; the practice questions are exercises, not a transcript of a recording.
To add Brazilian audio to your routine, choose a lesson in the Real Life Portuguese app. The app offers its own lessons and practice; this page does not imply that every example here has an app recording.
