How to Say ‘I Agree’ in Portuguese: Concordar and Estar de Acordo — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Use concordo to agree
Concordar is the everyday verb for agreeing. The present form concordo means ‘I agree.’ You can use it on its own when the idea is clear from context.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Concordo. Esse horário é melhor. | I agree. That time is better. |
| Eu concordo com você. | I agree with you. |
Use com before the person or idea
When you name what or whom you agree with, concordar is followed by com: concordar com alguém or concordar com uma ideia. The preposition stays com even when the English wording changes.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| A gente concorda com a proposta. | We agree with the proposal. |
| Você concorda com o professor? | Do you agree with the teacher? |
Choose a natural level of formality
Estar de acordo also means to agree and can sound a little more formal or deliberate. To disagree politely, say entendo, mas não concordo (I understand, but I don’t agree).
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Estou de acordo com essa mudança. | I agree with that change. |
| Entendo seu ponto, mas não concordo. | I understand your point, but I don’t agree. |
Remember: Use concordo for ‘I agree,’ concordar com before a person or idea, and estou de acordo for a more deliberate agreement.
Check your understanding

Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Use concordo for ‘I agree,’ concordar com before a person or idea, and estou de acordo for a more deliberate agreement.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
