Portuguese for a Payment Reminder: Follow Up With a Client — Practice
A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.
Check whether the client received the invoice
Invoice is fatura or cobrança, depending on what the document is. Before assuming a delay, ask whether the client received it and whether any information needs correction.
Identify the project and invoice date in your message. This gives the client enough context to find the right document.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Você recebeu a fatura do projeto enviada na segunda-feira? | Did you receive the invoice for the project sent on Monday? |
| Precisa que eu reenvie o documento? | Would you like me to resend the document? |
Ask about the expected payment date
Use previsão de pagamento to ask when payment is expected. Ask if the client needs another copy or a different payment detail, and keep your reminder factual and courteous.
Payment terms depend on the agreement and relevant local requirements. Check your contract or ask an appropriate professional when you need advice about rights or collection steps.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Você consegue me informar a previsão de pagamento? | Could you let me know the expected payment date? |
| O vencimento é no dia 20, conforme a proposta aprovada. | The due date is the 20th, as stated in the approved proposal. |
Keep a useful written record
If you discuss payment by phone, send a short follow-up summarizing what you agreed. Keep the amount, due date, and reference number clear so both sides can review the same details.
Avoid adding frustration to the first reminder. A neutral message gives the client a clear chance to explain if something has changed.
| Brazilian Portuguese | English meaning |
|---|---|
| Obrigado por confirmar. Vou aguardar o pagamento na sexta-feira. | Thanks for confirming. I'll expect the payment on Friday. |
| Se houver algum problema com o documento, me avise. | If there is any issue with the document, let me know. |
Remember: Confirm receipt first, ask for the expected date, and keep the amount and agreed terms documented.
Check your understanding
Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.
Recall the Portuguese, then say it
Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you
Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.
Confirm receipt first, ask for the expected date, and keep the amount and agreed terms documented.
Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
