A guided practice lesson with English explanations, Brazilian Portuguese examples, and answers you can check. Read the examples, recall the meaning, then say a version of your own.

Ask to change the appointment politely

Use remarcar to reschedule and horário to mean a time or appointment slot. Give the appointment date or reference first so the provider can locate it. Then explain briefly that you cannot be home at the original time.

Offer one or two alternatives when you can. A specific option is easier to answer than a general request to come whenever you are available.

Brazilian Portuguese examples with English translations: Ask to change the appointment politely
    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
Preciso remarcar a visita de quinta-feira.I need to reschedule Thursday’s visit.
Vocês têm horário na sexta à tarde?Do you have an appointment slot Friday afternoon?

Confirm the visit details that matter

Check the new date and time window, the service address, and whether someone over a certain age or the account holder needs to be present. Ask whether there is anything you need to prepare before the visit.

If you need to cancel rather than move the appointment, say that directly and ask how to book again later. The provider’s cancellation process and availability may vary.

Brazilian Portuguese examples with English translations: Confirm the visit details that matter
    Brazilian PortugueseEnglish meaning
A visita está confirmada para sexta, entre duas e quatro? Is the visit confirmed for Friday between two and four?
Preciso deixar algum documento ou equipamento separado?Do I need to leave any document or equipment ready?

Repeat the new time before ending the call

Summarize the new appointment in one sentence and ask for a text or email confirmation if the company offers one. If you receive a reference number, keep it with the original service request.

Use então, ficou para sexta às três (so, it is set for Friday at three) to check that you heard the final time correctly.

Remember: Give the original appointment, offer a new time, and confirm the address, time window, and preparation needed.

    Check your understanding

Choose the English meaning of each Portuguese example. Answer before looking back at the tables. These questions check the written examples in this guide; they are not a listening or proficiency test.

Recall the Portuguese, then say it

Read the English prompt and say a Portuguese version before opening the answer. The answer shows the example from the lesson; other natural translations may also work. Compare the meaning and the situation rather than counting a different word as automatically wrong.

Make the phrase useful to you

Choose one example you could actually use. Say it once from memory, then change one detail that fits your life, such as the person, place, time, or object. Check whether your change also needs a different verb form, article, or adjective ending. If it does, compare it with the pattern in the explanation.

Give the original appointment, offer a new time, and confirm the address, time window, and preparation needed.

Return to two prompts tomorrow without opening the answers first. If a phrase still feels difficult, shorten it to a useful chunk and build the complete sentence again.
